There’s no doubt that having a cell phone with all the bells and whistles in Ontario is expensive. You could certainly downgrade, and use the phone for what it’s intended for – making calls, but what’s the fun in that?
So if you want a smartphone that you don’t have to monitor minutes on, Wind Mobile is your best bet.
Until September 15th, Wind is offering a $35 montly plan that includes:
Up to $150 in Bring/Buy Your Own Phone Credits or WINDtab
Unlimited Canada-wide Calling
Unlimited Canada-wide Texting
Unlimited Canada/US wide Picture/Video Messaging
Unlimited Data (Fair Usage Policy Applies)
Call Control (Caller ID, Missed Call Alerts, Conference Calling, Call Forwarding, Call Waiting)
No Hidden Fees, System Access Fees or Activation Fees
Use your features anywhere on our network
*goes to $40 after the 15th*
Keep in mind that the Wind network is continually expanding and if you use your phone outside of the network, but still domestically, it’s about 15 cents a minute for calls, 5 cents a text and 5 cents a MB of data.
Wind keeps its costs low, because they less of your monthly payment is put towards the cost of a phone, which means you pay more upfront for the device (Koodo is another company that works the same way).
One of the best ways to keep your upfront cost lower, is to get your phone from another source. You can buy one off of Kijiji, or consider one of these awesome smartphone deals from Tripleclicks (in US funds, but with free shipping):
