About Me – Money Savvy Me

I am a former high school teacher, who really didn’t find the education system aligned with my world view and general perspectives.

So, in 2012 I left teaching to pursue graduate studies.  I moved away from my family and moved in with my boyfriend.  At the time, I was young, chasing dreams and didn’t even think of the financial ramifications.  I still hadn’t paid off my loans for my first two degrees and had built up a fair bit of consumer debt, buy buying a fancy new car (that I really didn’t need), travelling (I still don’t regret this though) and just general spending.  So with that previous debt, I was building onto it by paying for graduate school and adding on new living expenses.

Then one day while I was supposed to be reading, I put on TLC for some background noise.  Perhaps it was my lack of interest in whatever article, but the show Extreme Couponing came on and I was mesmerized.  I watched people load up shopping carts and walk out paying nothing for it all!  Fortunately, it was a marathon, so I kicked back and watched, and watched, and watched.

Later that night when I took a look at my budget, I couldn’t help but think that there was something to the whole couponing thing.  I figured if they could do it, why couldn’t I?  A google search of Canadian couponing later and I was hooked.  I started reading everything and anything I could on couponing and soon became a coupon junkie.

This addiction to coupons, soon led me to a number of ways to increase my income.  I played around with some of them, but focused more on the couponing element.

Fast forward a few years, and now a stay at home mom with a toddler, I still coupon all the time, but I have turned a great deal of my attention on ways to bring in extra cash.  The biggest reason for this is that I find it fun and because my toddler destroys my coupons whenever he can get his hands on them!

So where did this blog come from?  It actually started out as a simple site to help my friends and family get started with coupons.  Many continually asked me for advice on how to coupon and just the basics of it all.  Since I am so passionate about it, I would go on and on, finding that they soon seemed to daze off.  This lead me to create the site, so they could go back and access the key points.

Soon I found I was constantly sending out emails and Facebook messages about deals that came up.  This lead me to create the blog, just so I could keep people up-to-date on deals as I found them, without spending forever writing messages.

Now, as I have begun to explore and find success in ways to make more money, I’ve added that element to the site and blog, because who doesn’t want more money?!?!

So that’s a little bit about me and this blog.  I hope you find it informative and be sure to visit often for more ways to earn and save!
