I struggle with buying my parents’ gifts. Seriously! I always feel like there’s just nothing to show how much they mean to me and how grateful for all that have and continue to do. Needless to say, Mother’s Day and Father’s Day end up being somewhat stressful as I try to find the perfect gift, that they will love and cherish.
This often leads me to making them something special, often with some photos of the grandkids (or my brothers and I before we had kids of our own). They absolutely loved photo calendars and canvas prints in the past.
However, with three young children under 6, remembering to make a beautiful, personal memento in time proves t be quite difficult. More often than not, I totally forget about the big day until the week before (if I’m lucky) and end up scrambling to make something with my Cricut, or, (more often) buying something last minute and thanking the skies for my Amazon Prime membership!
So without further ado, here are some of my favourite last minute Father’s Day gifts for all budgets!
Is dad active (or does he need to be)? An activity tracking device could be just what dad needs to get motivated to achieve or maintain his fitness goals.
The Fitbit is so versatile and is so much more than just a step counter. Whether dad is a techie or not; a fitness buff, or not, all of the cool features offered by Fitbit will be sure to keep him entertained for quite some time!
Socks are a pretty generic and expected Father’s Day gift. But, what if you spiced things up a bit with some fun “If You Can Read This” socks?
Sure to be appreciated by dad joke enthusiasts and those with almost any sense of humour, a pair of these cheeky socks will surely please!
We picked up an Amazon Echo around Christmas time just to give it a try and see what all the fuss was about.
We now have Echos in every room of our house (well, except the bathrooms)! No word of a lie – we even have one in the garage!
These devices are just so fun to play with and make great little stereos if nothing else.
While they are still a higher budget item, they are frequently on sale – especially around the holidays. And Father’s Day 2019 is no exception!
Is dad a reader? Is he really into a particular show or topic right now? Does he have a special interest? Books are great gifts because there truly is something for everyone!
Cologne is another traditional gift, but something that’s always kind of nice to get!
For some reason my dad hates buying his own cologne. Now, I’m not sure if this is true, or if it’s just his attempt to leave an easy gift idea for us, but either way, he’s always happy to get some as a gift.
Spice up this traditional gift with the funky Sports Car Cologne decanter from Avon!
Shoe Horn/Back Scratcher
A couple of years ago I picked up a back scratcher at a random liquidation place and it is seriously one of my most priced possessions.
If you don’t have a back scratcher, I seriously recommend you get one ASAP!
No word of a lie, it is one of the greatest inventions of all time.
Seriously! Well, not seriously. When you struggle to find the perfect gift for dad and even go so far as to ask him what he’d like and his reply is “nothing.” You can even get him exactly what he wished for!
Make dad a jar of nothing. All you need is a jar (feel free to paint it if you’re feeling fancy) and a fun message about getting nothing. You can tie it to the jar, or print it off on printable vinyl and stick it right on the jar. Either way, it will make for a good laugh.
Have a bigger budget? You can buy a Jar of Nothing instead of making it!
Sometimes buying actual things for dad can be tricky. He may be the type who buys whatever he wants, has everything he needs, or is just tough to buy for. In any of these cases, a gift card that he’ll use is a great gift to give.
Have a bigger budget? Add a gift that matches the gift card. For example:
Get a Cineplex gift card and attach it to a package of popcorn.
Get a Chapters gift card and attach it to a nice notebook.
Get a NHL gift card and attach it to a mini hockey stick.
Is dad a sports fan? How about a music fan?
Really celebrate and show dad how much you care by buying him tickets to his favourite team or band’s concert. Get two and make the gift even more special by going to the event with him!
You know what dad would love most of all? To spend time with you. Seriously, that’s it. Hang out, watch a movie, go for a walk, look through old photo albums, play a board game, let him know what’s going on in your life.
Have a bigger budget? Take dad our for a nice meal, or pick up a Groupon experience to share with him!
